Pokemon Theme: Exeggcute and Exeggutor…

So I really enjoyed painting these guys. At first I tried to make them both look like ‘prints’ but the Exeggcute was just looking weird so I had to remove it and paint it again. Their faces were so hard to paint, it’s such a tiny space to paint in! And remember I don’t use acrylic paint so I often can’t get the lines perfectly smooth, forgive me please. I’m so excited to be over two thirds of the way through and still enjoying it, crazy!

BornPrettyStore: Leopard Print Foil…

So Born Pretty Store (BPS) contacted me offering the opportunity of picking a few products* to review. I have heard and seen great things about them before but never really checked them out. They have seriously everything (jewellery, clothing, nail art supplies, phone accessories) at crazy low prices. The jewellery looks great and is even cheaper than Primark, hard to believe right? Even more amazing is that their delivery is free, say whaaat!

They have an amazingly huge range of nail art supplies so picking only a few products was super hard! (Go check it out already, your mind will be blown.) I felt that studs etc are usually all the same, apart from appearance as they have some I’ve never seen before, but I avoided them for the time being as I wanted something more gritty to review so I could really judge the quality. I chose a Stamping Plate and Stamping Stamper/Scraper as I thought it would be good to combine those two for a fuller, fairer review, you’ll see those later. As well as some water transfers and nail foil as both of these can be troublesome if of a poorer quality, which this stuff doesn’t seem to be.

The nail foil I chose was called ‘A11‘ and is currently $2.88. It comes in a tube which makes storage easy, it didn’t state how much was meant to be in the tube but I had probably about a meters worth – a huge amount of foil! I used my trusted ‘Rio Foil Glue’ to stick the foil to my nails once my base coat was dry, the product description tells you how to achieve adhesion with just polish alone – I will also have to try out this method out as not everyone has foil glue! I’ve had problems with Ebay bought foils before regarding the way the pattern comes off the backing – it just didn’t. However BPS foil came off like a dream! It didn’t crinkle horrendously, the pattern came off cleanly, and for some nails I didn’t even have to peel the backing off as it came up by itself. Top coating foils is always risky, sometimes it makes them wrinkle or just look a bit weird, I used SecheVite and as you can see lovely and glossy with no wrinkles! (Those brush marks you can see are actually from my base colour seeing as it’s metallic.)

I am so super happy with this product, my mum can’t wait to have this put on her nails actually, and I’ll definitely be using it again. If you’ve checked out their range and fancy no doubt a whole heap of things I now have a 10% off code you can use at the checkout. That makes buying even sweeter right? It can be found on my side bar and also at the end of this post!

Pokemon Theme: Voltorb and Electrode…

So oh my goodness, see for them being such simple and boring Pokemon to paint they caused me endless problems! Well actually is was the polishes I used but still. My white is basically finished, there’s barely anything left and what is is super gloopy and can’t be revived any further. The red is also in the same condition so ended up stringing bits of polish everywhere when I took my brush away. Grrr! Hence the blotchy, gloopy look to the whole thing. Even my black was acting up, it was applying really thinly so the outlines are noticeably patchy. Electrode’s grin just makes him look goofy rather than menacing.

Wait a minute! A Pokemon post midweek, what?! I’m actually on holiday right now so had to schedule posts.

Caterpillar Army…

So did you know that a group of Caterpillars is called an ‘Army’? I didn’t actually and googled it out of curiosity, although I don’t think a pair quite counts. I think these guys are super cute – its the googly eyes I think, and I know it’s never cool to go on about how much you like your own work, but I really like how these turned out!

P.S I am actually on holiday right now so I apologize for any delayed replies!

Pokemon Theme: Krabby and Kingler…

So I’m almost at 100, how exciting! Deciding on Krabby and Kinglers nail design was so easy – of course I had to feature their differing claw sizes! I’m happy with how these turned out, not looking forward to the next pair though….

Studded Spotting…

So I just love this technique! ‘Water Spotting’ is super easy – fill a little tub of water, drop some polish in, spray some perfume onto it, dip your nails in and voila! I’m not sure why I chose this colour combination, I don’t think it works particularly well actually. I then added some studs just to liven it up a little.

Primark Tattoos…

So these are actually temporary tattoos for your body, but I’ve seen a lot of people using them on their nails recently as I suppose they’re just like ‘water transfers’. They were £1.50 from Primark and they looked good in the pack – really gold and metallic. I applied them to my nails just as you would with a water transfer – peeled off the protective layer, put it face down onto the nail, soaked the back with water, slid the paper off and voila! They look good right, maybe a little crinkled and for some reason the tattoo on my middle finger was harder to peel off and it ended up cracking. I also applied some to my fingers to see how they would actually look on skin, on the cuticles they work quite well but the one on my actual finger it looks more wrinkled – still super shiny and metallic though!

Over all for £1.50 it was worth trying them out. I might even put one of the larger designs round my wrist or ankle and see how they get on.

‘Dragon Fire’…

So this is my third hand-made polish! It’s a fiery blend of reds and golds so of course had to be named ‘Dragon Fire’. I used ‘Mistress’ for the coloured base (red), the red glitter is ‘Ignite’, the gold glitter is ‘Pirouette’ and the gold hexagons are named ‘Bombshell’. This is only one coat, it’s rather dense and with such a strong red tint it doesn’t actually even need a base colour! It’s a shame because the photos just don’t show up how glitzy and rich this mix actually is!

Valentines 2015…

So here’s my nail wheel for this year! I’m happy that I managed to finish the whole wheel this year, last years was a bit of a disaster as I was lacking creativity. I am also pretty happy with how most of them turned out – that bunch of flowers though no no no no no. Favourite? I’d have to say ‘Love’, ‘XOXO’, and the chocolate coated strawberry.
