Supernova…

So I’ve finally broken my ‘no buy January/February’ by purchasing 3 polishes from Primark. They were so cheap at £1.50 each, really only equating to the price 1 ‘good’ polish and we are now in to May almost June so I think I’ve done pretty darn well. I’ve enjoyed not buying, I feel like I’ve broken the habit (or addiction, whatever you’d like to call it) and it feels good! However, I am feeling a slight relapse coming on as I’m getting a little bit bored of my current supplies – my fingers are twitching at the keyboard, eager to start scrolling through BPS again. Maybe that’s why I ended up buying some new polishes actually!

Anyway, the first polish I tried was ‘Supernova’ which is a metallic pink pink according to the bottle, however on the nail it comes out a sort of lilac pink. It applied wonderfully smooth, it didn’t steak quite as badly as Models Own metallics can, and it didn’t smell horrible either. (Please excuse the two sort of scuff marks, I managed to bump my nails whilst they were still drying)

That was way to boring to leave the house with so I added a quick splash of glitter! In reality, I think the pink glitter helps to lift the polish a bit more in to the pink side and out of the purple side of the spectrum.

St. Helier…

So St.Helier produce a fizzy, lemon soft drink very similar to San Pellegrino but at like half the price. Therefore when I’m needing to be a little more frugal and want to buy something tasty to drink I’ll go for St. Helier instead, they taste almost identical anyway so I don’t feel as if I’m scrimping.

Anyway, the other day I noticed a new variety – a ginger beer. As I like to drink my rum with a ginger beer mixer I thought I’d give it a go, and you know what it wasn’t half bad. (You can’t beat ‘Old Jamaica’ in my opinion though!) I really liked the foil used to protect the can, it was a cool colour and I liked the typography and graphics, so I thought why not put it on my nails!

Anyone else tried St.Helier?

Swimming Gala…

So you may or may not already know that I work as a swimming teacher. At the weekend we held a fun swimming gala for everyone. (With emphasis on the fun, everyone got a participation medal regardless, but also place ribbons in their race.) For the beginners there were noodle horse races and the more advanced swimmers swam either widths or lengths of proper strokes. It was a really good day which ran smoothly only because there was a lot of preparation and thought went in to it (kudos to the boss).

All the swimmers seemed to love it too. It was a nice taster to the competitive world for some of the older children who maybe hadn’t thought about club swimming before, and a pat on the back to all the children for working hard at lessons.

So, confession time who out of you lot can/can’t swim?

Here’s the nails that I wore, they were greatly admired!

Website…

So I’m trying to take my craft selling a little more seriously. I worked hard to take some ‘good looking’ product shots and opened up my Etsy shop. Hooray!

The next step was to sort out was my website. I bought my domain name years ago but never got round to doing anything with it, the idea of building my own website seemed too scary so I procrastinated. Until last week and got stuck in to it.

Funnily enough it was enjoyable in a way, kind of satisfying. And whilst not the slickest of websites, I suppose it does the job. So please have a look, (click on the photo below) and let me know what you think as sometimes with being the ‘creator’ it means you’re too close to see it’s faults.

Welcome

BornPrettyStore: Silver Metal Frame

So today I’m reviewing some ‘Silver Metal Frames‘ sent to me by BornPrettyStore. I chose them because I’ve seen some super cool ways they’ve been used by Japanese nail artists whom I follow on Instagram. Unfortunately those guys are nail art wizards and I’ve came no where close to achieving their standards, but I’ve done my best to make them look as best as I can!

They’re literally just little hoops of metal, very light-weight and beautifully beveled to sit better on your nails. They come in a lot of different sizes, shapes and also you get the option of either gold or silver. As you can see I went for the Silver Circle in 6mm.

I first applied my base coat, and whilst still wet, settled the little frame on to my nail. (As I was going to be applying UV gel top coat over it later, I didn’t think it would need any proper fixing to start with). I then filled the frame with little chunks of silver. I think it almost makes it look like a silver geode or precious rock. I’m no expert in geology terminology, any help with what I’m trying to describe here would be appreciated!

I then encased the whole thing in UV gel polish top coat. As you can see the polish affected neither the metal frame nor the silver chunks – hooray!

So what do you think of using the frame like this? I think without it, the silver chunks would have looked a bit random and there’s no way they would look so neatly arranged.

For the second look, I painted my left hand. I know, I bet yous thought I didn’t have one, I hope you didn’t faint from shock. I just couldn’t bear to take off the first design as I really liked how it turned out. This time instead of filling the frame up I chose to use it as a decoration in it’s own right.

I went for a bright, summery beach look that required zero painting skills. It’s just a shame I didn’t included another frame as it’s looking a little lonesome. But hopefully you can see what I was trying for!

So which design do you prefer? For me, it has to be the first look even though the second is a lot more seasonally appropriate. The frames are currently on sale (16/05) at $1.29 for 10 which is a great price.

Have you got metal frames hiding in your nail art supplies already? Has anyone else seen the Japanese nail artist wizards that I’m talking about? So inspirational.

Cheeky Nandos…

So if you happened to see my Instagram story on Saturday you may have guessed that I was dining at Nandos for dinner!

What do you guys think about Nandos?

For me, it’s a little over-hyped if you listen to the people that say it’s ‘amazing’. The food is okay, but nothing spectacular and I would say it’s potentially over-priced for what you actually get. But for a meal out every now and then it does the job, but to be honest I would rather go somewhere else. I have to be in the mood for a Nandos, it’s not my ‘go to’ restaurant. So why was I there then, well it was for my dads birthday meal with my brother and he loves Nandos. (It was either that or McDonalds…)

I decided to paint the peri-o-meter, even though I never dare touch anything above ‘extra mild’ because I’m a big scaredy-cat when it comes to heat. But there was no way I was going to be able to cram the words ‘extra mild’ in to that tiny space, so ‘Hot’ was my best option. Of course I also had to paint the Nandos Rooster (or rather ‘Barcelos Cockerel’) as it is their logo, and went with writing Nandos on my thumb. I enjoy painting lettering as it’s quite satisfyigin, even although I messed up the ‘S’ as I had sort of ran out of space whoops!

Which came first?

So which came first – the chicken or the egg? I really fancied doing something hand painted today as I haven’t done so in a while. They were inspired by this cute little chicken shaped stapler I have on my desk. None of the office supplies are sensible, so I’m glad I don’t actually work in an office; my tape dispenser is a dachshund, my highlighters are snails and I have dinosaur pens.
