St. Helier…

So St.Helier produce a fizzy, lemon soft drink very similar to San Pellegrino but at like half the price. Therefore when I’m needing to be a little more frugal and want to buy something tasty to drink I’ll go for St. Helier instead, they taste almost identical anyway so I don’t feel as if I’m scrimping.

Anyway, the other day I noticed a new variety – a ginger beer. As I like to drink my rum with a ginger beer mixer I thought I’d give it a go, and you know what it wasn’t half bad. (You can’t beat ‘Old Jamaica’ in my opinion though!) I really liked the foil used to protect the can, it was a cool colour and I liked the typography and graphics, so I thought why not put it on my nails!

Anyone else tried St.Helier?

Silver Snowflakes…

So it’s still not hit me that Christmas is in 7 days… That’s not a very long time at all so I felt like I needed to crack out my Christmas themed nail art supplies before the season passes by. Tonight I chose to use some snowflake Nail Foil that I bought from BornPrettyStore. The snowflakes are quite far apart on the ribbon so I decided to cut some out, meaning I could place them how I wanted. I also added some gemstones to the middle of the snowflakes to jazz the whole thing up a bit. I think it makes for a more classy Christmas design? I’ve seen some SnowflakeFoilNailArt

BornPrettyStore: Holographic Leaves Foil…

So I keep wanting to say ‘Holographic leaf’ foil, but that’s not the way it is and it’s bugged me this whole time, I needed to get that off my chest before we started. And breathe… So pretty!

PileOfLeaves
I received this ‘Holographic Leaves Foil‘* from BornPrettyStore to review. I’ve previously used their leopard print foil herehere and here, so as you can probably tell I really like how that foil performs. This time round I chose a holographic pattern to see how well it would apply. Any guesses? It applied so well, how good does it look!

1MeterLeaves
Now to rewind a little. The foil itself comes in a handy little tub, meaning no folding or potential scratching off of the design. There’s about a meter in there which is pretty good going. The only ‘problem’ I could pick at is the fact the pattern is quite large, meaning I had to chose individual leaves for each nail. Once I sized it up I cut around the leaves I wanted so as not to waste foil or end up with accidental stickage.

LargeLeaves
CuttingLeaves
To make the foils stick I applied my nail foil glue, not included with the foil but you can pick it up at BPS too, and waited until I could no longer see it (it applies white, and once clear it means the glue is tacky enough for the foils to stick). I then applied the foil on top, making sure it was the correct side down so the pattern would actually transfer. Usually I have a hoof stick that I rub over the nail but the foil was so amazing the backing paper actually lifted off without much pressure at all – I was actually able to rub it gently with my finger! You can see in picture below the clear ‘break’ lines of the stuck foil and the foil still on the backing.

Application
Once applied, it is vital to top coat the foil. Your nail is still kind of tacky afterwards, and unless top coated you WILL end up with fluffy nails, trust me… This was the part that made me nervous though. I know with my other metallic foils (Rio) that SecheVite can alter their appearance, as in sometimes change them to a whole different colour. The top photo shows the foils freshly applied, the one underneath shows it top coated. To me there is a comparable difference, the top coated leaf looks more silver, it’s kind of lost it’s ‘holographicness’, and is a little streaky but I actually think it looks more punchy!

I decided to use some Barry M polishes, ‘Raspberry’ and ‘Watermelon’ to create an Autumnal vibe. (LOL look at me ‘swatching’. So much to learn, like making my bottles fingerprint free…)

I applied my selected individual leaves to each nail, and it think it looks great! Just perfect for Autumn. Maybe not the jaundiced looking hand that follows though…

HoloLeaves
Because I am myself, I couldn’t just leave (AH HA) them at that. I felt like I wanted to create a sandwich (non-edible), so coated the leaves with their respective base colour. I couldn’t beLEAVE it actually worked, yes very subtle, but it worked!

LeafGelly
It looks the most effective on my thumb. You can see the layers really clearly and look, some ‘holographicness’ even with top coat! Maybe it depends on the angle of the light. So what do you think of the leafy sandwich, did I just totally waste the whole thing?…

LayeringLeaves
To recap, the ‘Holographic Leaves Foil‘ are a little large in pattern but look pretty, apply beautifully, top coat successfully (even if they do turn more silver with SecheVite, I don’t think it wastes them), are versatile and you should totally just go buy them as they’re perfect for Autumn! Autumn Speckle…

So here’s another Autumn design, which is actually inspired by ‘Nail Swag’. I had to change the colours as I couldn’t go for a ‘natural’ looking base – my nails are still horribly stained from the weather map design. The more eagle eyed of yous will noticed I have a nub on my middle finger (don’t worry if you didn’t spot it, I have quite large nails anyway so I feel it’s not as noticeable). This was due to some over enthusiastic usage of a craft knife but I’m glad it was my nail and not my finger!

BornPrettyStore: Gecko Charms…

So this is a first for me as I’ve never actually worn any nail charms before! When I was allowed to pick more items to review I  just had to try out these little Geckos*. Dare I say that some nail charms can look a little tacky? But not these guys! For $3.05/£1.97 you get FIVE charms, yes FIVE. Amazing right?

Gecko comparison
I really couldn’t settle on a design. The first one I painted was with the lizard skin foil but something just look weird about it, so I took the foil off and repainted them black. But that just looked boring so I added some more rhinestones. What design do you prefer?

Gecko on Finger
The little geckos themselves were so cute! They can be attached to your nails by their 4 little feet, which I applied my glue to. They are also slightly curved meaning they sit well on your nail, giving your digits a little gecko hug!

Gecko Feet
As I previously mentioned you get 5 in the bag, they are perfectly identical with no faults or flaws which can often occur in such products. Once I was finished with my design, I carefully removed my gecko charm meaning I can now reuse it for another time. I have other ideas on how to use them so please stay tuned for future projects featuring them.

If you fancy getting a hold of these little geckos you will get 10% off them using my code ‘AZYW10’ at the BornPrettyStore check out. Now for some more photos as he just loved to pose!

BornPrettyStore: Leopard Print Foil…

So Born Pretty Store (BPS) contacted me offering the opportunity of picking a few products* to review. I have heard and seen great things about them before but never really checked them out. They have seriously everything (jewellery, clothing, nail art supplies, phone accessories) at crazy low prices. The jewellery looks great and is even cheaper than Primark, hard to believe right? Even more amazing is that their delivery is free, say whaaat!

They have an amazingly huge range of nail art supplies so picking only a few products was super hard! (Go check it out already, your mind will be blown.) I felt that studs etc are usually all the same, apart from appearance as they have some I’ve never seen before, but I avoided them for the time being as I wanted something more gritty to review so I could really judge the quality. I chose a Stamping Plate and Stamping Stamper/Scraper as I thought it would be good to combine those two for a fuller, fairer review, you’ll see those later. As well as some water transfers and nail foil as both of these can be troublesome if of a poorer quality, which this stuff doesn’t seem to be.

The nail foil I chose was called ‘A11‘ and is currently $2.88. It comes in a tube which makes storage easy, it didn’t state how much was meant to be in the tube but I had probably about a meters worth – a huge amount of foil! I used my trusted ‘Rio Foil Glue’ to stick the foil to my nails once my base coat was dry, the product description tells you how to achieve adhesion with just polish alone – I will also have to try out this method out as not everyone has foil glue! I’ve had problems with Ebay bought foils before regarding the way the pattern comes off the backing – it just didn’t. However BPS foil came off like a dream! It didn’t crinkle horrendously, the pattern came off cleanly, and for some nails I didn’t even have to peel the backing off as it came up by itself. Top coating foils is always risky, sometimes it makes them wrinkle or just look a bit weird, I used SecheVite and as you can see lovely and glossy with no wrinkles! (Those brush marks you can see are actually from my base colour seeing as it’s metallic.)

I am so super happy with this product, my mum can’t wait to have this put on her nails actually, and I’ll definitely be using it again. If you’ve checked out their range and fancy no doubt a whole heap of things I now have a 10% off code you can use at the checkout. That makes buying even sweeter right? It can be found on my side bar and also at the end of this post!

MiniManiMonth ‘Candy Floss’…

So all I can see are udders. I’m sorry, but once I stopped painting and looked at my nails, I did find it quite funny but ultimately was like ‘eeww, no’. The base is smoothed out foil from the little pots of ‘nail jewels’ I purchased from Wilkos. I’ve used it before as flakes but wondered what look it would give over the whole nail, and I think it looks pretty cool! (Check out my instagram for how the foil looked by itself)  ‘Candy Floss’ is actually quite a nice pink and applied quite thickly.

Houndstooth with Silver…

So I purchased some nail art supplies out of a shop called ‘Wilkos’ for £1 each – a set of nail wraps, french manicure tip guides and  ‘nail jewels’ – 4 little tubs of  very fine nail foil. I haven’t seen their nail products before so I was keen to try them. I’ve already used the tip guides for my green ombre on ombre, and they worked great, so today I decided to use the foils and wraps.

The wraps are definitely in the ‘thicker’ category, but not in the ‘too thick’ one – meaning they were able to bend round the nail and hug it, but not pliable enough to get rid of two tiny wrinkles. Still acceptable for £1!

The foil, this is where it gets confusing. The following points about it aren’t meant to be complaints, but they kind of sound like that, but I’m not sure if that means I am complaining about it because it wasn’t actually ‘bad’?…  The foil is super fine, I sometimes accidentally blew it away with my breathing or arm movements. It also stuck to everything without much coaxing, my tray and my fingers mainly. I used nail foil glue to make it stick to my nails and I did want the pieces of silver to be small and delicate… However with the foil glue being so sticky and the foil being so keen to attach itself to anything I ended up with big clumsy chunks. Nevermind! I still enjoyed working with it, and really like it?… Confused, I am.

Interstellar Sparkle…

So I’ve been missing my ‘regular’ blog post days because I’ve been busy, sorry. I blame it on the time of year, anyone else? A terrible craving came over me, I needed to foil and I needed to use bling. Therefore this design wasn’t really planned out, and as soon as it was finished all I could think about was how it felt a bit interstellar with the silver streaks and dark blue sky.
