Summer Parrots…

So these parrot nail stickers were sent to me for review back in May’16 and I’ve not used them since. If you didn’t bother to follow the link, the sheet also contains bananas and toucans so it’s not really the kind of item that I’m reaching for all the time.

They turned out way too summery for this time of year, to the point where I was sort of annoyed by them. They were almost taunting me with their summer vibes, whilst outside the weather is blowing a gale and bucketing with rain…

BornPrettyStore: Metal Wheel Design Stickers

So I’ve been just super busy with general life, and it’s unfortunately meant that I’ve been neglecting my product reviews a little. Fear not though, as today I had time to try out these ‘Metal Wheel Design Stickers‘ in option 2240 sent to me by BornPrettyStore.

The stickers come on a clear backing which takes the guess work out of sizing them for your nails. There’s also plenty of them in various designs and sizes, (don’t you just hate it when there’s just one of something?) some of which are super cute – I mean look at the tiny cogs!

The stickers are strong, they handled perfectly well either picked up by fingers or with tweezers. Fortunately they’re not thick meaning they hug the nail nicely with no poking out or curling up, this is also helped by the strength of the stickers adhesive.

As some of the cogs are quite large, I wanted to test out how well they would cut. They cut like butter, no weird edges or anything, and still stick just as well after the trauma.

For my first design I chose to do a dry brush background to give an industrial feel, but kept it in quite light in tones to show up the stickers. It really helps to show how shiny the metallic effect is. Super pretty and a bit of a distraction if you’re driving!

For my second design I went with a magnetic polish in gunmetal silver for the base and just had to add the little clock parts I have. They’re are also from BPS, which I personally purchased (find them here) and are handy for crafting not just nail art.

3D Cog Nails2.jpg

I mean you can’t get a better combo than cog stickers with actualy 3D cogs! It tickled me. Obviously not that practical, unless you did them in acrylics, so here’s the stickers without the cogs. I had to scrape off the polish I’d used to attach the parts which is why there is some damage, but impressively it’s only minimal and still perfectly wearable.

Dancing in the Rain…

So these Hello Kitty stickers arrived in a ‘lucky bag‘ way back in May…  2015! *shocked face* I’m surprised they haven’t turned in to dust or something by now, and more surprisingly is the fact they are still sticky!

I’m doing really well with my ‘use the unused’ resolution, and I’m pretty confident that I’m going to make it through February without buying anything too. I do however desperately need some new false nails and nail paint to continue on with my Essential Nails Nail Art Course. With them being properly ‘needed’ compared to my usual impulse nail related purchases, does this mean I could still buy them without failing my resolution or should I just wait another 13 days? HELP!

Stripes and Spookies…

So this is a little more cutsie and fun than my previous Halloween design. The little spookies are nail stickers that I bought a few years ago from a shop called ‘Wilkos’. They turned a bit wrinkly in the middle once top coated, but at least their edges didn’t curl or stick up.

BornPrettyStore: Birds and Bananas Nail Stickers…

So what weird and wonderful combinations BornPrettyStore come up with; a sheet of stickers with toucans, macaws, cockatoos and… bananas? Why not!

Bird Bananas Sticker Sheet

These bird and banana* stickers retail at $3.69, and you get a fair amount for that money. I was really impressed with how vivid they are, and they’re actually quite detailed. The only real transparency I noticed was the white tip of the toucans wing, all the other stickers seem to be solid.

At first I was using my tweezers to pick up the stickers, but found that they weren’t too sticky meaning they wouldn’t stick to my fingers, also they weren’t too delicate to manually handle so I ended up using my fingers to pick up and place them.

The stickers are very pliable, just look at how much that toucan is hugging my nail. It is a super flat finish, I genuinely struggled to feel the edge or even see it! Even more exciting than that, is that the toucan didn’t melt with a top coat – hallelujah. Is it only me that’s had nightmarish experiences with nail stickers melting? Please tell me I’m not the only one. No curling, no sliding, no melting, nada. And that’s just the way I want and like it.

Birds sit flat, do not curl
No melting with top coat
Moving on to bananas. I fricken hate real bananas, the texture and taste is just disgusting I don’t know why anyone would subject themselves to that. Boke. But banana nail stickers, hell yes! These applied to the same quality as the toucan – no obvious sticker edge, no top-coat melting, super flat sticking. (It wasn’t a surprise really seeing as they were off the same sheet, but you just never know!) How about a really boring game of spot the difference – which bunch of bananas has been topcoated? It’s pretty hard to tell huh?

Banana Bananas
So lets zoom out about now and get a look at the whole mani. I think these stickers are so fun, and just right for coming in to summer. I bet there’s loads of different things you could do with them, to suggest a few; brighten them up, make them classy or get playful with them (did anyone spot the bananas with the gorillas running up them?!). I chose to use the dry brush technique in several green polishes to create a jungle feel, then lightly ‘sketched’ on some foliage.

BPS Nail Mail…

So I usually order something from BornPrettyStore every month after pay day; it’s a bit naughty because no way do I need more supplies but their prices are so amazing and their products are so appealing I just can’t help it (a bit of an addiction maybe?..) It’s usually around 3-4 weeks between ordering and delivery, meaning I have a whole month to experiment with my new items before the next delivery arrives! I’ve never actually shown my ‘nail mail’ before as one post, as I usually just present the items as I use them. However as I have no nail art to present to you today, you’ll just have to look at my purchases instead.

NailMail
Lets break it all down! (p.s it’s a long one so I’d just scroll down quickly and look at the pictures.)

I was feeling a bit risky, so forked out a whole $0.99 for a ‘Lucky Bag‘ of three nail art items. And I could not be happier with the results! I was honestly expecting all the crap of the day that BPS maybe couldn’t sell and that’s why they were lumped together and sold off cheap however look what I got; Hello Kitty nail stickers, cheeky cherry water decals, and a stamping plate – with my all time favourite mollusk,  A SNAIL! An absolute bargain, and a whole load of fun, I’d highly recommend giving it a go!

LuckyBag
As I have accumulated a few stamping plates now, I thought it would be a good idea to purchase a plate holder. The one I purchase holds 24 plates, unfortunately it’s no longer available to purchase but there are plenty of other holders available here. What can I say, it works great. It holds not only my round ones, but also my new octagonal plate.

Staying with the stamping theme I also purchased a large, rectangular ‘Nautical Plate‘. It’s my first one of this size, so I’m quite excited to use it. I presume it’ll perform the same as my others but the images appear larger and clearer so they might stamp better, stay tuned. I’d heard loads of people talking about Konad polishes being great for stamping, and as I find my OPI black comes out a bit wishy washy, I decided to purchase a bottle of ‘Konad Black 11ml‘ as it was on sale. The bottles are super cute, and I can’t wait to see how the polish stamps.

KonadSquareStampingPlate
Continuing with the nautical theme, as mermaids and shells are all the rage right now in nail art, I had to buy this wheel of nail decorations. It contains a super cute turtle, shells, mermaids, seahorses and anchors. And the best bit, they’re in gold and silver in one wheel! Meaning no more of “what colour should I get? Hmm, maybe I’ll just have to buy a wheel of each”.

OcenDecorationWheel
Another item that seems super cool to use right now are nail vinyls. Or maybe it’s just because I’m following nail vinyl people on Instagram… I went for the ‘NK-03’ set due to them having stars. Painting stars free hand is just a no go for me, so it felt like the correct choice. Can’t wait to use these!

NailVinylsStarsLeopards
Are you still with me? There’s still a few more items to go, so if you’re holding in a pee I’d just go do it now. I wouldn’t want any accidents. As I was creating amazing nail design concepts in my head (most of which don’t turn out anything near amazing), it struck me that I only have ‘clear’ and ‘iridescent’ gems – no coloured ones! Whaaat. This had to be resolved therefore I ordered this very colourful set of ‘Candy Coloured Gems‘. Hopefully my nail art dreams can now come true.

CandyColouredGems
The below object may not look like much, but it’s seriously a life changer. To pick up gems I usually rely on a wet dotting tool or even my finger but honestly how fiddly is that, no longer shall this be the case though! This ‘rhinestone picker gel‘ will change it all – apparently you take a little blob off and stick it on to anything, for example a toothpick and ta-da, an instant gem picker. Sounds fantastic!

RhinestonePickerGel
Last but not least, a tub of ‘round candy colour glitter‘. Again, I’m actually just following trends because round glitter seems to be another ‘thing’ right now.

UltraThinGlitterSequins
That concludes my nail mail delivery, congratulations if you’ve made it to the end! Your prize is nothing I’m afraid, only the satisfaction of knowing you’ve made it. If you now fancy placing an order from BornPrettyStore, remember it’s free delivery and you can use my code ‘AZYW10’ to get 10% off all full priced items.

What have you learned from this post? I’m not sure, maybe that I write way too much uninteresting stuff. What have I learned from this post, that I’m such a trend sheep – I need to start being a trend setter…

MiniManiMonth Starlet…

So I don’t usually use nail stickers, I used to love them but got really put off by the fact they can curl when you apply a top coat. However when I saw that this Ciate colour was called ‘Starlet’ I couldn’t resist paring it with some stars. ‘Starlet’ is a two-tone shimmer polish – a blue-purple with sometimes green. It took three coats for full opacity which isn’t too bad. The top coat didn’t curl these stars but it does look as if they could have done with two coats to seal them in smoothly.
