Bright Buddha…

So I’ve not painted my mums nails for ages, due to the fact they were in such a state. I don’t now what she’s been doing differently but today there was actually a bit of growth to work with. She decided to go for an orange holo base (which was a bit of a surprise as she usually picks black or silver) and chose to paired it with a buddha stamping plate. Something simple, but nice enough.

The more eagle eyed of you will notice I managed to warp the image a bit on her thumbnails and that there’s actually a bit of black missing, it’s like a game of spot the difference. I think without the two being together for comparison, I get away with it.

Sweet Stuff…

So who didn’t get a whole heap of chocolate related gifts this Christmas?! I managed to fool myself into thinking that I’d have some self control and ‘ration’ myself day to day but I’ve basically gorged myself like a vampire in a blood bank. What’s worse is that there’s still loads more left to be eaten… It seemed fitting that I had something sweet on my nails too.

I was gifted this nail stamp from my mum for Christmas. It’s made by a company called ‘Apharsec’ (which I’d never heard of before). The stamping ‘plate’ looked so different as it’s silicone and thick, I really wasn’t sure how to use it so I had to watch the ‘how to’ videos on their website.

I understood it quick as it’s so simple and oh my goodness it’s great – there’s no scraper or stamping pad needed! Say what?… You apply the polish to the stamp, then smudge the excess off on a piece of paper, then press the stamp on to your nail. That’s it, done! You know how sometimes with the old stamp/scraper combo it can sometimes be patchy? Not with this bad boy.

If there’s any untidiness around the image, you can just pick it off as it’s silicon! There’s another cool trick to do with it, but I’ve yet to try that out…

I wanted to include photos of the pink ombre stage as I’m now using liquid latex! It saves so much time on clean up plus the peel is so satisfying.

Fancy Filigree…

So I have to admit that I think this is a damn pretty mani! Usually I’m not too into this sort of style but for a night out around this time of year, I think it’s perfect. I used my Konad Black (which is my new love) for stamping the filigree pattern, and then added some studs that I picked up cheap (like 99p) from a shop called ‘Home Bargains’.

It was a hard one to photograph – the gold wasn’t shining, then it was shining too much and blah blah blah, the usual problems. Trust me, it’s pretty.

P.S The winds of change are blowing in my direction, stay tuned to see where they take me.

BPS Nail Mail…

So I usually order something from BornPrettyStore every month after pay day; it’s a bit naughty because no way do I need more supplies but their prices are so amazing and their products are so appealing I just can’t help it (a bit of an addiction maybe?..) It’s usually around 3-4 weeks between ordering and delivery, meaning I have a whole month to experiment with my new items before the next delivery arrives! I’ve never actually shown my ‘nail mail’ before as one post, as I usually just present the items as I use them. However as I have no nail art to present to you today, you’ll just have to look at my purchases instead.

Lets break it all down! (p.s it’s a long one so I’d just scroll down quickly and look at the pictures.)

I was feeling a bit risky, so forked out a whole $0.99 for a ‘Lucky Bag‘ of three nail art items. And I could not be happier with the results! I was honestly expecting all the crap of the day that BPS maybe couldn’t sell and that’s why they were lumped together and sold off cheap however look what I got; Hello Kitty nail stickers, cheeky cherry water decals, and a stamping plate – with my all time favourite mollusk,  A SNAIL! An absolute bargain, and a whole load of fun, I’d highly recommend giving it a go!

As I have accumulated a few stamping plates now, I thought it would be a good idea to purchase a plate holder. The one I purchase holds 24 plates, unfortunately it’s no longer available to purchase but there are plenty of other holders available here. What can I say, it works great. It holds not only my round ones, but also my new octagonal plate.

Staying with the stamping theme I also purchased a large, rectangular ‘Nautical Plate‘. It’s my first one of this size, so I’m quite excited to use it. I presume it’ll perform the same as my others but the images appear larger and clearer so they might stamp better, stay tuned. I’d heard loads of people talking about Konad polishes being great for stamping, and as I find my OPI black comes out a bit wishy washy, I decided to purchase a bottle of ‘Konad Black 11ml‘ as it was on sale. The bottles are super cute, and I can’t wait to see how the polish stamps.

Continuing with the nautical theme, as mermaids and shells are all the rage right now in nail art, I had to buy this wheel of nail decorations. It contains a super cute turtle, shells, mermaids, seahorses and anchors. And the best bit, they’re in gold and silver in one wheel! Meaning no more of “what colour should I get? Hmm, maybe I’ll just have to buy a wheel of each”.

Another item that seems super cool to use right now are nail vinyls. Or maybe it’s just because I’m following nail vinyl people on Instagram… I went for the ‘NK-03’ set due to them having stars. Painting stars free hand is just a no go for me, so it felt like the correct choice. Can’t wait to use these!

Are you still with me? There’s still a few more items to go, so if you’re holding in a pee I’d just go do it now. I wouldn’t want any accidents. As I was creating amazing nail design concepts in my head (most of which don’t turn out anything near amazing), it struck me that I only have ‘clear’ and ‘iridescent’ gems – no coloured ones! Whaaat. This had to be resolved therefore I ordered this very colourful set of ‘Candy Coloured Gems‘. Hopefully my nail art dreams can now come true.

The below object may not look like much, but it’s seriously a life changer. To pick up gems I usually rely on a wet dotting tool or even my finger but honestly how fiddly is that, no longer shall this be the case though! This ‘rhinestone picker gel‘ will change it all – apparently you take a little blob off and stick it on to anything, for example a toothpick and ta-da, an instant gem picker. Sounds fantastic!

Last but not least, a tub of ‘round candy colour glitter‘. Again, I’m actually just following trends because round glitter seems to be another ‘thing’ right now.

That concludes my nail mail delivery, congratulations if you’ve made it to the end! Your prize is nothing I’m afraid, only the satisfaction of knowing you’ve made it. If you now fancy placing an order from BornPrettyStore, remember it’s free delivery and you can use my code ‘AZYW10’ to get 10% off all full priced items.

What have you learned from this post? I’m not sure, maybe that I write way too much uninteresting stuff. What have I learned from this post, that I’m such a trend sheep – I need to start being a trend setter…

BornPrettyStore: Metal Effect Butterflies…

So I was sent these super pretty ‘Metal Effect Butterfly Water Decals‘* from BornPrettyStore to try out. For a while they became an item I’d sit and look at and I’d want to use, but then wouldn’t because I was scared I’d mess up something so pretty. Today I decided to grab the butterfly by the antennae, and go for it. Fortunately because BornPrettyStore decals are a dream to use, they came out really nice! The below photo was taken with a flash, and as you can see they truly are ‘metal effect’ – look at that shine!

I started off, as usual, by selecting what decal I wanted to use. This product contains 6 butterflies and as they are all the same size and quite large, I decided they were suitable for my ring and middle finger.

The next step was preparing my nail, I painted, stamped and top coated but with the decals being so decorative they would look stunning on a plain base colour. I then cut out my selected butterfly and gave it a 10 secondish bath in my little pot of water which I also use for water marbling. It’s hard to estimate how long they were really soaking for because 1) I never actually count how long they’ve been in and 2) I tend to take them out once the decal starts to slide off the backing anyway.

Different people use different techniques to get the decal from the backing paper on to their nails. I tend not to remove it completely from the backing paper as I’m scared of them curling and sticking to itself. Therefore I take the backing paper and decal with my tweezers from the water to my nail, then use my finger to slide the decal in to place. Once I’m happy with it, I give it a slight dab with a tissue/kitchen roll/cotton pad whatever I’ve got to soak up any excess water. I’ve never had any issues with a BornPrettyStore decal not sticking!

I then top coated my decal, which I was seriously nervous about. In the past, I had some bad experience with top-coating ‘metal effect’ items (tattoos and foils mainly), it either made their colours run or completely disappear! I’m glad to say though, this was not the case with these decals –  LOOK HOW SHINY THEY STILL ARE!

Of course that photo is with flash, so for shinyness comparison here’s one taken in natural daylight (Yup, there was actual daylight today unlike Wednesday when it was so dark I had to put lights on at like 1pm!).

Aren’t they just gorgeous! I’m so glad I finally had the guts to use them.
Reasons why you should buy these decals;
– They are beautiful
– They are truly ‘metallic effect’ – such luster.
– They came off the backing paper without hassle.
– They were sticky enough to stick to my nails.
– The metallic effect didn’t freak out on being top coated.
– Did I mention that they’re beautiful and shiny?

Now that I’ve talked you in to buying these, head on over to BornPrettyStore where you’re more than likely to find other things to add to your basket. If any items happen to be full price, enter the code ‘AZYW10’ at the check-out to receive 10% off. P.S and remember free postage!

OMD3 – Day 15 Cat…

So I have a confession. It might come as a shock to some people, I could even lose some followers because of it – but please remain open minded, it takes a lot of courage for me to say it. Here it goes…. I don’t like domestic cats. Not because I’m allergic to them or because I had a bad cat experience, I dislike them a lot for many reasons but I wouldn’t want to start some sort of reader disgruntlement. It’s almost like discussing politics at a dinner party!

*I find nothing wrong with cutesy anime cats or cats on stationary and so on, or even big cats! Just the ones that hang about your house and you may class them as a ‘pet’.

For this design I used some ‘HeHe’ stamping plates, fortunately I actually have a whole cat themed one which is admittedly very cute! I tried the ‘reverse’ stamping method to enable me to colour in the cats eyes, mouth and fur and it is a little messy but still works right?!

Pink Lace…

So for this I used one of my stamping plates from ‘Hehe’. I’m still not great at stamping; I find achieving the correct positioning consistently quite hard and also the transfer – as it looks fine on the stamper but ends up with parts missing or patchy once put on my nails. Practice practice practice!

Bubbles in the Stream…

So this is a design I did a while back but wasn’t happy with the photo. It’s a little out of focus so I held it back from being published. However, I’ve not really had time to paint anything new so I’ve dusted off it’s cobwebs.

I think it looks like bubbles in a stream? Or maybe when a male Betta Splendens blows a bubble nest? I’m honestly not on drugs or anything…

Seaweed Stamping…

So I thought I’d give stamping another go. This time I think I’ve done better; I feel I was ‘squeegeeing’ it better so got a more consistent coverage. I’m not really sure what the design was meant to be, it was just a singular tribal looking line that I repeated across the nail. With the background gradient and everything, I thought it looked like seaweed.

(P.S Can you tell that I’m totally loving Barry M ‘Guava’ at the moment.)

Zip it!…

So this was my first time stamping ever. I had never been brave enough to pay a proper amount for a set in-case I didn’t like it, but guess where I found one – Poundland! The plate itself isn’t very impressive, I only liked a few of the designs but thought ‘Hey for £1 it’s worth a shot’. And it was. They didn’t come out that great probably because I’m unpracticed and the set wasn’t of great quality (They say a poor workman blames his tools though…). The zips looked a bit boring on the black, so I blinged it up with glitter! Yaaay! Nail Stamping was fun though, I enjoyed it – it’s not particularly messy and it’s easy to do. So I may invest in a proper set. I’ve heard good things about Moyou and Konad?…
