BornPrettyStore: Shining Diamond Plate…

So today I’m posting my review of BornPrettyStore’s ‘Shining Diamond Stamping Plate‘*. It arrives in a little cardboard pocket which is handy if you don’t have an actual plate holder as it’ll still protect the plate from scratches when you’re not using it. (I know all stamping plates usually arrive with the protective blue film, and I’m sure you’re all well versed, but remember to remove this before stamping). It’s such a good feeling to see a super shiny, silver plate all fresh and new isn’t it, anyone with me on this one!

I always try to warm any new plate up, or break it in – I’m not sure what the correct terminology would be? What I mean by that is at first the image doesn’t seem to work so well. The polish doesn’t go in to all the lines properly or the stamping head doesn’t pick the image up. Meaning I generally never use the first, second or third scraped image. You can see what I mean with the photograph below where you can hopefully tell what one was scraped first (white) and then the third scraped image (clear). Does anyone else experience this?

Fortunately once the plate had warmed up, the images pick up really well. (Both of my stampers are also from BornPrettyStore and I used Konad stamping polish in ‘Black’.) The lines seem well engraved, and it’s lovely that there’s such a variety of gems included. As with most of my reviews, I like to have a play with a few looks to show how much potential an item has.

This first design was created by sponging on a glitter polish base, then stamping on some diamond images. (Aren’t the little ones cute?!) After that I painted around the diamonds with my blue polish and finished the look off by adding little bits of glitter from the polish I used as the base. Has anyone noticed the blip? I managed to mess up the transfer of an image from the stamper to my nail, can you see it yet, yeah my index finger. Whoops!

Pretty bling bling bling, but why not. If you can afford to wear diamonds, you may as well go all out right!

I’d like to say the second design is a little more subtle but I’m not too sure that it is. This time I decided to show how the individual images can be placed to create a sort of gemstone pattern. I painted on a silver polish base, added some silver foil flakes (they kind of got lost in the over-all look) and then individually picked up different gemstone images and placed them beside each other.

Marlin Fishing…

So these images are from a large, rectangular stamping plate I bought waaaay back in August last year, and this is the first time I’ve decided to use it. How crazy is that?! (Or rather disgusting, I mean surely that’s a sign that I have far too many nail art items but…)

I used loose glitter to create the blue/silver ombre: I regretted that decision after only the first nail as there was immediately glitter everywhere. For the images I used the reverse stamping technique with my clear, squishy stamper.

Foiled Bird…

So I’ve seen some pictures on Instagram where people are managing to foil their stamped image. They must be magicians as I tried to stamp with my foil glue and it just did not work, or maybe they’re using a different glue or method but lets stick with the magic theory as it makes me look less incompetent. I didn’t want to abandon the idea completely so I twisted it to better suit my non-magical abilities – I stamped, foiled, then stamped again (all made possible by my clear jelly stamper). Didn’t they turn out pretty!

The stamped images are from plate BP-80, which I just recently reviewed, using my black konad stamping polish both from BornPrettyStore. The foils are crafting foils.

BornPrettyStore: BP-80 Stamping Plate…

So I already own several BornPrettyStore stamping plates, as well some stampers/scrapers by them too, but today I have BP-80 Stamping Plate* to review! The plate includes some very pretty images and arrived in a little card pocket which is super handy if you don’t have a stamping plate holder as it will help protect the plate when not in use. As expected it comes with the protective blue film that all stamping plates seem to arrive with – for those new to stamping, and I’m not being patronising here, remember this needs to be removed before use.

As you can see, the images are amazingly crisp and very well etched. I really couldn’t make my mind up as to what design I was going to feature, so I went a bit over-board. I used three different stamping techniques to create three different designs with four different images!

For the first, I used the reverse stamping technique with the larger bird and large lotus. I chose to use my clear stamper because you can see if you’ve missed parts or messed up the image by looking ‘through’ it. The image does look a little patchy, but I wasn’t too worried seeing as I was painting over it. I didn’t really take the time to properly break the plate in, as daft as it might sound I sometimes find stamping images pick up better after the 3rd or 4th time.

I managed to smudge some of the detail (eye and neck feathers) when I was filling the image in but I’m sure you get the idea. I also feel that my pink base was way too bright, I was aiming for subtle but instead it’s ended up as a bright pink punch in the face!

Secondly, I chose to do a multi-coloured scrape. The one where you blob on a few colours and then scrape over it a few times so the colours all mix up. I thought the cloud(?) image was perfect for this as it had a large enough engraved area for the colours to show. I think this kind of look would be great as a base, however maybe if I’d placed the image properly and covered my nail you could use it as a ‘full’ design. The polishes I used were not stamping polishes but this allowed for some layering, you can notice this more on my ring finger and in future I’d like to play about with that some more.

Last but not least I chose to use the doubling up technique;  you stamp the same image in two different colours almost on top of each other. This has only really become possible with the clear stampers, otherwise it could look a little messy. I chose red and black purely because those were the two stamping polishes I had and the daisy-esk image. Stamping polishes certainly make a difference and as does a well etched plate – I mean look how crisp those edges are! The third picture looks way more vibrant, but that’s due to there being a top coat applied, for some reason the stamping polishes apply a little matte.

I hope that’s provided plenty of inspiration to get you going. Let me know if you order this plate (or already have it) and what you’d do with it.

Currently (13.05.2016) BornPrettyStore have BP-80 and a bunch of other stamping plates half price.  If you add anything to your basket that happens to be full price, use my code ‘AZYW10’ at the checkout to get 10% off those items. Are you still reading? You shouldn’t be, you should be shopping!

Safari Stamping…

So the photo on the left was actually in my ‘nail fail folder’. When I created it originally I didn’t have a proper stamping polish which is why the black is so washed out but I didn’t delete it outright because I saw potential in it’s over-all design.

However a few months back I ordered a bottle of Konad Stamping Polish from BornPrettyStore, and boy what a difference it made! It’s bold and punchy now so I’m finally happy to reveal it to the world. The animal print foil (review here), and the stamping plate (review here) are from BPS too. I have seriously used that plate a millionbilliongazillion times and would highly recommend if you’re going to get anything from BPS – get that!

Bright Buddha…

So I’ve not painted my mums nails for ages, due to the fact they were in such a state. I don’t now what she’s been doing differently but today there was actually a bit of growth to work with. She decided to go for an orange holo base (which was a bit of a surprise as she usually picks black or silver) and chose to paired it with a buddha stamping plate. Something simple, but nice enough.

Buddah Accent
The more eagle eyed of you will notice I managed to warp the image a bit on her thumbnails and that there’s actually a bit of black missing, it’s like a game of spot the difference. I think without the two being together for comparison, I get away with it.

Spiders at the Disco…

So why do Halloween nails need to be doom and gloom? I’ve decided to go for a neon splodge decorated with spiders. The spiders are stamped (except my friend on the wall) from the plate I received in the ‘lucky bag‘ I purchased for $0.99. I actually quite like creepy crawlies so the fact it had snails, centipedes and spiders on it didn’t bother me, so I reckon it actually was a lucky bag for me.

Spider Friend

(Please excuse the colour of my fingers, I’m not quite sure what’s went wrong as I am not currently sun-burnt and the lack of clean up – rookie mistake.) I used to avoid stamping with black, due to the fact the polishes I own didn’t seem to pack the punch black should. So I decided to order Konad Black and boy has it changed my stamping life! I am no longer scared to stamp in black, look how vibrant and bold and punchy those spiders are! For the sake of being fair, in-case you think I’m talking out my bottom, I did a little comparison test… The results speak for themselves really! What black polish do you use to stamp with?

BPS Nail Mail…

So I usually order something from BornPrettyStore every month after pay day; it’s a bit naughty because no way do I need more supplies but their prices are so amazing and their products are so appealing I just can’t help it (a bit of an addiction maybe?..) It’s usually around 3-4 weeks between ordering and delivery, meaning I have a whole month to experiment with my new items before the next delivery arrives! I’ve never actually shown my ‘nail mail’ before as one post, as I usually just present the items as I use them. However as I have no nail art to present to you today, you’ll just have to look at my purchases instead.

NailMail
Lets break it all down! (p.s it’s a long one so I’d just scroll down quickly and look at the pictures.)

I was feeling a bit risky, so forked out a whole $0.99 for a ‘Lucky Bag‘ of three nail art items. And I could not be happier with the results! I was honestly expecting all the crap of the day that BPS maybe couldn’t sell and that’s why they were lumped together and sold off cheap however look what I got; Hello Kitty nail stickers, cheeky cherry water decals, and a stamping plate – with my all time favourite mollusk,  A SNAIL! An absolute bargain, and a whole load of fun, I’d highly recommend giving it a go!

LuckyBag
As I have accumulated a few stamping plates now, I thought it would be a good idea to purchase a plate holder. The one I purchase holds 24 plates, unfortunately it’s no longer available to purchase but there are plenty of other holders available here. What can I say, it works great. It holds not only my round ones, but also my new octagonal plate.

PlateHolder

Staying with the stamping theme I also purchased a large, rectangular ‘Nautical Plate‘. It’s my first one of this size, so I’m quite excited to use it. I presume it’ll perform the same as my others but the images appear larger and clearer so they might stamp better, stay tuned. I’d heard loads of people talking about Konad polishes being great for stamping, and as I find my OPI black comes out a bit wishy washy, I decided to purchase a bottle of ‘Konad Black 11ml‘ as it was on sale. The bottles are super cute, and I can’t wait to see how the polish stamps.

KonadSquareStampingPlate
Continuing with the nautical theme, as mermaids and shells are all the rage right now in nail art, I had to buy this wheel of nail decorations. It contains a super cute turtle, shells, mermaids, seahorses and anchors. And the best bit, they’re in gold and silver in one wheel! Meaning no more of “what colour should I get? Hmm, maybe I’ll just have to buy a wheel of each”.

OcenDecorationWheel
Another item that seems super cool to use right now are nail vinyls. Or maybe it’s just because I’m following nail vinyl people on Instagram… I went for the ‘NK-03’ set due to them having stars. Painting stars free hand is just a no go for me, so it felt like the correct choice. Can’t wait to use these!

NailVinylsStarsLeopards
Are you still with me? There’s still a few more items to go, so if you’re holding in a pee I’d just go do it now. I wouldn’t want any accidents. As I was creating amazing nail design concepts in my head (most of which don’t turn out anything near amazing), it struck me that I only have ‘clear’ and ‘iridescent’ gems – no coloured ones! Whaaat. This had to be resolved therefore I ordered this very colourful set of ‘Candy Coloured Gems‘. Hopefully my nail art dreams can now come true.

CandyColouredGems
The below object may not look like much, but it’s seriously a life changer. To pick up gems I usually rely on a wet dotting tool or even my finger but honestly how fiddly is that, no longer shall this be the case though! This ‘rhinestone picker gel‘ will change it all – apparently you take a little blob off and stick it on to anything, for example a toothpick and ta-da, an instant gem picker. Sounds fantastic!

RhinestonePickerGel
Last but not least, a tub of ‘round candy colour glitter‘. Again, I’m actually just following trends because round glitter seems to be another ‘thing’ right now.

UltraThinGlitterSequins
That concludes my nail mail delivery, congratulations if you’ve made it to the end! Your prize is nothing I’m afraid, only the satisfaction of knowing you’ve made it. If you now fancy placing an order from BornPrettyStore, remember it’s free delivery and you can use my code ‘AZYW10’ to get 10% off all full priced items.

What have you learned from this post? I’m not sure, maybe that I write way too much uninteresting stuff. What have I learned from this post, that I’m such a trend sheep – I need to start being a trend setter…

Wonky Zeb…

So now that the OMD3 challenge is over, I’m a bit ‘blank’ – I’m sure I felt the same way last year. After being given prompts and having the pressure (even though it’s all self-pressure) of doing a design a day, it’s almost as if I need to rest my brain for a bit. Unfortunately this means no new nail art, so I’ve had to have a rummage in the ‘Nail Fail’ folder.

Nail Fail, why? I don’t like how quint the stamping is on my middle finger, it doesn’t line up with the center of my nail or the studs, and this bugs me to no end. Urgh. Other than that I actually quite like the thing.

The Studs and Stamping Plate are both from BornPrettyStore, I use both of these items a lot so I would recommend getting some yourself. You’ll get 10% off items that are full priced with the code ‘AZYW10’.

Squint Zebra

Shiny Happy Zebras…

So I just love how this turned out, it’s so happy and shiny! I want to say I went ‘too far’ with all the glitz and glitter but I’m not sure if that’s even really possible… I used a flakie and a glitter  polish for the base, stamped on top using the multicolored blobbing technique, and then added a ridiculous amount of gems (even though if I’d planned it better I could have had more on there!).

It’s a shame because (how many times do I complain about this) the photos don’t do the glitter any justice, it’s so much brighter and glittery in person and it’s a serious distraction whilst driving. I used BornPrettyStore plate BP-16 which is an amazing plate that I’ve returned to time and time and time again for images. If you fancy purchasing it too, you can use the code ‘AZYW10’ at the BornPrettyStore check out for 10% off all full priced items.
