BornPrettyStore: Silver Stamping Polish…

So you’re maybe sick of all my Born Pretty Reviews by now, especially because the majority of them are all very positive. I bet you think I’ve sold out and that I’m bent over a barrel having to say false praises to stay on their good side, but I’m genuinely not. I’m not scared to say anything negative for fear of losing free stuff either, I do appreciate it but I mean they’re not sending me a gold Rolex and champagne, we’re talking about $10 worth of stuff here every 4 months or so. This review is a perfect example where the pictures and product speak for itself, and my rambling waffle isn’t even necessary, you can’t deny here that their product works well.

The product I’m talking about it their own brand ‘Silver Stamping Polish‘, at $4.99 (currently on sale at $1.99 16/11/16) I did not have high hopes. I only have 2 stamping polishes, both Konads which retail at between $8-$12 and they are fantastic so the price difference worried me. Usually with these things you’re better investing as you’re paying for more pigment and generally better quality. I was very skeptical starting this review.

The bottle arrives well packaged, it’s encased in a little foam cube which is very dense so there’s no need to fear any smashes in the post.

I was expecting the polish to be pretty runny, and maybe a little insipid. But actually it has a nice consistency, not too thick not too thin – a real goldilocks. The brush is of standard shape, it doesn’t need to be fancy as it’s only for applying to stamping plates.

goodformula
The polish applies nicely to the plate, (I used one of my all time favourites, BP-16), it scraped off fine and my stamper picked it up well too. It produced a strong, neat looking image, but I suppose this is also down to a good plate and a good stamper too.

Due to my skepticism, I wasn’t holding any punches and went straight for the jugular – a jet black base. I was laughing in it’s face, I thought it was going to turn out so weak and transparent and I’d be able to mock it because I could barely see it. I was so very wrong…

stampingpolishhighpigment
The tables had turned, it was laughing at me, it knew it’s hidden strength all along. Look how bold it is. Behold how silver and shiny it is. Please accept my apologies you wonderful stamping polish. I’d started with the hardest base colour hoping it would fail at the first hurdle and it didn’t, so it was time to test it on the rest of the colours I’d chosen.

strongonallcolours
It holds it’s own on all the colours. Even on the pale ones where it could have been easily lost, it’s still bold enough to be seen. I was so genuinely impressed.

My next challenge for the stamping polish was a comparison against a non-stamping polish, I felt my silver OPI was the best rival. The pictures speak for themselves.

bpspolishvsopi
As you can see, the OPI on the right is dull, grainy looking and a little bit patchy. The BPS stamping polish is bold, bright and wonderful. It’s a fair test, and the results can’t really be argued with.

I chose a second stamping plate to use the polish on, just to ensure the image would still be as crisp and it certainly was. Again I used a black base to really highlight how strong this polish is.

So I’m impressed, are you? You can’t deny those are pretty amazing results. For stamping do you use regular polish or specificly stamping polish, and if so has it even been a BornPrettyStore one?

BornPrettyStore: Chameleon Nail Polish…

So I’ve not reviewed anything from BPS in a while as I’ve been on holiday, but now that I’m back I couldn’t wait to try out the ‘Chameleon Nail Varnish‘*  that I was sent.

ChameleonPolish

The colour is option 224, and comes in a 10ml bottle which is a little larger than BPS usual bottles (they’re normally only 6ml) and also has a large flat cap. At first I thought this could be a little bit clumsy, and whilst it’s not the most comfortable thing to hold, the shape of the top certainly didn’t hinder the application. The formula of the polish is beautiful – it’s nice and smooth and has just the right viscosity. I would say it’s on the runnier side of things, but I think this helps it’s application in two ways; firstly it makes it way easier to paint multiple thin coats that dry quickly and secondly it applies more smoothly compared to the patchy/clumpy results that can happen with thicker polishes.

ChameleonPolishSmoothFormula

BPS recommend that the chameleon nail polish  is applied on to a black base colour but seeing as I’m a curious rebel I decided to apply the polish over a clear base coat only. *gasp* The results were actually still very beautiful!

So the above photo shows three coats, I reckon you could get away with wearing only two but I felt more comfortable with three. Below I’ve taken a picture after each coat to show how well it layers up.

It has amazing depth and a wonderful gloss, that’s it without a top coat and I doubt you’d notice. (It kind of reminds me of a darker version of OPI’s ‘My gecko does tricks’?) As it is a Chameleon Polish it displays different tones and colours depending on the angle and the light. Below are some pictures displaying the polishes (obvious) green tones, blue tones and gold tones.

I know the website recommended a dark base, but I’m not sure this really needs it. It would maybe result in a subtly different look but I don’t think there’s any point in wasting the time. Running Hot and Cold…

So I think I’ve found my new favourite polish – thermal colour changing polish! It’s magical, I don’t think I’ve ever played about so much in the sink whilst washing my hands before. The polish is from BornPrettyStore, in shade 110, and if I’m being honest I really wasn’t expecting much. When I saw it in the bottle, the colour looked a bit icky, the formula seemed a bit weird and I didn’t have high hopes for how easy it would be to change it’s colour. I WAS SO WRONG!

ThermalPolishGIF
The formula was actually pretty good, it applied smoothly and only took two coats (I applied a little thinly on my index finger, you can maybe slightly see that?). It’s also not that icky once it’s on, I’d say a it’s a lavender shade and has a lovely fine glitter going through it. Without top coat, it dries smooth and almost sort of matte looking. (I know this is maybe starting to sound like a review of a product I’ve been sent  but I paid for this polish myself, I am just so amazed by it I wanted to give it full credit!)

ThermalPolish2Coats
Before I went any further by adding any stamping,  I decided to test it. BOOM! Mind blown. It just has to touch the hot water and it immediately changes, the lavender turns to a beautiful blue. I was not expecting it to work so well, I thought I’d maybe have to be scalding myself with boiling water before I even got a hint of the other shade.

I went with fish for the stamped image, as I liked the playfulness of the blue being the ‘hidden’ colour. At first I thought it was only going to change when I washed my hands in the hot water, but over the past day I’ve found that it does change on it’s own accord due to my body temperature! And that makes it way more awesome. For example, I noticed when I was cross-stitching some of my fingers were turning to blue, whilst at work (on poolside) I was flashing blue, when I’m typing (like right now) all my fingers are blue, and this morning in bed (as I painted these last night) I was bright blue too!

I loved this polish so much I’ve ordered another colour, and I even took a video of it!(Shame it’s such grainy quality, cringe.) Right now the polish is half price (16.06.2016) and it’s free shipping so I’m not sure why you wouldn’t give it a go! Watch the video and let me know if you’re going to try it.

Raccoon…

So I like adjusting my home decor according to the seasons; fresh and bold colours for Summer and Spring, warm oranges and harvest colours for Autumn, and then of-course (the most fun in my opinion) Christmas. I took tonight’s inspiration from my teasel raccoon, isn’t he just the cutest! And I say ‘inspiration’ but I actually just copied it…

AutumnRaccoon
The Orange Holographic Polish* is from BornPrettyStore and I actually reviewed it just last week so I was obviously very impressed by it to have turned to using it again, although it is unlike any other polish I own so maybe that’s why. If you’re interested to find out how it fared you can read the review here.

On another note. You may, or may not, have notice I’ve been rather absent lately mainly due to two factors – a busy schedule (it’s a known fact that everything always happens at once after months of nothing), and a horrific finger injury which actually physically disabled me from bending it in to my usual ‘pose’. You can still see the aftermath, but hopefully it doesn’t look too repulsive. Please accept my apologies!
