So I’ve seen a lot of random/abstract nail art lately on Instagram (e.g among others, ‘Ninanailedit‘ does the style quite often) and thought I’d give it a go. It was simultaneously freeing but a bit stressful , let me explain.
It was great to just do a blob here, a few spots there, add a line and then voilà. It was quick, in my opinion it looks quite cool and it wasn’t messy. There was no pressure to be ‘perfect’. Done.
But! It was knowing when to stop and also not getting too OCD about it. Is that enough spots? Do the lines have to all point in the same direction? Was that the right colour combination? And so on.
I’d definitely do it again as it was quite fun and I’d recommend for everyone to give it a go!
So I have a UV lamp but haven’t used many UV Gel products so I was interested to try out the ‘Chameleon Sequins Gel BP-08‘ that BornPrettyStore sent to me to review. There’s only 3g of gel in the little tub which doesn’t look much at first but actually there’s plenty.
I started off with a black base then applied two coats of the gel, curing in between. For application I used a small flat brush as I felt it would pick up the Chameleon sequins better than a pointed brush. Even though it’s described as ‘sequins’, I’d probably call it a chameleon flakie.
Those colours though, right?!
It really is beautiful and it was worth doing two coats of gel as I think it helps add a bit of depth. I sealed in all in with a no wipe UV gel top coat.
As pretty as it is alone, I thought it made a fitting base for some basic galaxy decoration. What do yous think?

So I’m still playing Animal Crossing:Pocket Camp daily. Fortunately it’s now more of a quick dip in a few times a day rather than my compulsive addiction that I had to begin with where I wanted to check who was visiting every three hours. Come on admit it, you went through that stage too right?…
Anyway, I decided to paint the pit crew from OK Motors – Giovanni, Beppe and Carlo.
So I’ve not written a review in ages! Today I’m showing you a fish themed stamping plate from BornPrettyStore. Have a little look at the following pictures and let’s play ‘One of these things is not like the others’.
Did you get it right? Why on earth has a unicorn been included, bizarre. There is actually a fish called a Unicorn Tang but it certainly doesn’t look like that. (I suppose you could argue that jellyfish aren’t fish but at least it’s related in the name and live in the sea.)
Anyway, the fish images are pretty usable and picked up crisply. They lend themselves well to reverse stamping if that’s your bag but if it’s not don’t worry as they can also be used just as effectively for as stamp-and-go images.
However, if you have quite long nails I think you’d struggle to cover them with just one image. I think you’d have to pick up the image twice and try to do some sort of over-lap. I have naturally long nails without have long growth (if that makes sense) and the images were close to being too small to cover mine. Also, as beautiful as the central goldfish is I didn’t have much practical use for it as it’s massive!
Enough nit-picking, who’s ready for some nail art example;
So which was your favourite? If you fancy trying out some fish-related designs the plate is currently on sale for only $1.59 and free shipping! Should you happen to add anything else to your basket, use my code AZYW10 at the checkout to receive 10% off all your full priced items.
So I received a set of Nails Inc ‘Stay Bright Neons’ for my Christmas and decided to use one of the polishes (‘Claridge gardens’) as the base for my new year nails. The set includes a ‘neon activator’ which you have to apply as a base for the neon colour – it looked a lot like normal white nail varnish to me but it sure did make the neon pop!
I then threw on a sprinkling of holo glitter, which has disappointingly photographed as just silver, and some green round glitter to give me that ‘lets have a party’ feeling.
All the best for 2018 everyone!
So I’ve been super quiet on the blog front, apologies. I won’t bore you too much with the detail of the excuses but basically I’ve been super busy and unmotivated. When I did manage to get a minute to myself I just wanted to chill out and couldn’t be bothered with my nails.
ANYWAY! I purchased this super cute washi tape over in Japan. It’s very appropriate for today’s climate which has been considerably snowy. I cut the tape to size and stuck it down, it was actually quite a sticky washi so it stuck no bother. I then top coated it with Seche Vite and viola!
So it was only natural to pick up a few polishes in Japan, so why not choose some pokemon polishes! A shop called ‘its demo’ seem to have a massive pokemon colab deal which included some super cute stationary, accessories such as keyrings etc, as well as cosmetics for example eye shadow pallets, lip balms and polishes. (Admittedly if I didn’t know it was a colab I would be tempted to think it was some knock-off stuff, with the pokemon slightly altered so as to not infringe copyright issues.)
I picked up 2 pokemon polishes, which unfortunately don’t seem to have names only numbers, and a grapefruit handcream which smells lovely. I’m not a huge make-up wearer so as cute as the pallets were it would have been a waste of yen.
The first polish I chose to use seems to relate to pikachu as the glitter mix includes lightening bolts and it’s definitely a glitter topper so I created a yellow base for it.
I sponged a few coats of the glitter on first to create a more densely packed look and then one final brushed on coat to help seal in all the glitter. Looks cute right! Its definitely a novelty polish as I’m not sure how often I’ll wear it but for 450yen (about £3) why not huh.
I couldn’t just leave it as a ‘swatch’ so I painted the ‘its demo’ style pikachu. Unfortunately mines is looking a little uncomfortable about something, maybe even in pain… Sorry Pikachu.
So is anyone else playing this? I really enjoyed playing ‘New Leaf’ back in 2014, so much so I painted a whole nail wheels worth of villagers part 1 and part 2. This time round I’ve went for the easy option of painting the first loading screen. However… Should I paint some villagers again?…
So this design was 100% inspired by the whole day I spent in Osaka, mainly Dotonburi, eating nothing but Takoyaki. (I am not even exaggerating, I literally only had Takoyaki and vending machine juice that day, well actually I also had an ice-cream filled melon bread but I don’t think that quite counted towards my 5-a-day.) A lot of the vendors had these super cute octopus mascots on their stalls to instill some guilt in you as you chowed down on their delicious bretheren.
So (to my understanding anway, there’s probably way more to it) a Daruma Doll is used to remind you to complete specific wishes or goals. You colour in one of it’s eyes when you set a goal and then you colour in it’s other eye when you’ve completed it! Pretty cool huh? I didn’t want to paint in this dolls other eye however as once they’re complete I think you have to burn them later in the year at a festival – eek!
